New Spirit or Two

new spirit or two

in the kitchen

Driving home last night I finally had to start paying attention to this new entity that’s been hanging around. Unless there is some immediate reason, I can put them off and ignore them pretty well. This new spirit, whomever he is that has yet to be fully determined, really has a thing for my car. The first thing I took notice of was when I was sitting at my computer about two weeks ago focusing on what I was writing, only to have my brain connect a couple minutes after it happened…’someone’ was standing in my kitchen audibly whistling to get my attention.

in the car

A few days after that a friend and I were outside working on my car, neither of us touching it at the time, when someone power-locked all the doors. I thought I’d leaned on my lock remote in my pocket or something but the keys weren’t in my pocket. Looking around I found them laying on a cardboard mat we’d laid out. Funny, but not even as much as a wrench was near them. It was still just one of those things that made me wonder, but being in the middle of a project, I just let it go.

car, again

Then, three days after that I was driving home from teaching one of my workshops. My son was in the backseat and he told me he was freezing and asked if I could turn the heat up. I set it on high but since I was already too warm I asked him if he’d tell me when he was okay so I could shut it off. About three minutes later the window he was sitting next to rolled down. I glanced back when I felt the breeze and said “Hey! If you’re too hot now you could have just asked me to turn the heat off.” No response. “Will you shut the window? I’ll just turn off the heat.” Still quiet back there. “Hey!” Finally I get a groggy, “huh?” reply. I repeated myself and looked back there again only to see that he was laying down with his head in the middle of the car.

He’d fallen asleep. He told me he didn’t touch it, and having seen for myself nothing about him was touching the door, I had to take a quick “look” back there to see who was messing with me. I saw a young guy, late teens or early 20’s, straighter brown hair a bit mussed up, and I think he said his name is Michael. I’m not sure yet to whom he belongs. We were close to home now and it was late, so all I commented to him was “Cute…very funny.”

I mentioned it to T. during a phone call the next day, not about him being back there, but about the window opening. Not surprisingly she said, “wasn’t it a young guy, maybe late teens?” I love getting validation like that.

and again

The last thing that has happened was just yesterday when I was waiting in my car for someone and it started filling up with cigarette smoke (nasty, btw). Didn’t have the patience for that. For anyone who knows me, blowing smoke in my face isn’t likely to get me to pay more attention. I didn’t even bother to see if it was him again or someone different. We’ll see what happens in the next few days. Right now, it’s time for coffee.
