Meditation Music from Secret Garden

Take the Meditation to the Garden

You might get a little boost of meditative inspiration if you go back to your roots.  Mine so happen to be in Norway, and their group Secret Garden creates music that is perfect for meditation.  The duo of Fionnula Sherry and Rolf Lovland performs on violin and keyboard, but you’ll have to sample a lot of their music to hear the wide range of all their background musicians playing oboe, Irish harp, Uilleann pipes, keyboards, flute, whistles, guitar, and percussion.  There’s much to choose from on their ten albums put out between 1995 and 2016 (so far!)…flowing from lulling strings (“Sometimes When it Rains”, from Earthsongs) to classical (“Chaconne” from Sounds from a Secret Garden) and then to more Celtic sounds  (“Moving” from White Stones). Samples are on the playlist below.

“Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything.”

Selecting Meditation Playlist Songs

Rather than purchasing a single album, I would probably recommend spending a little time listening to the iTunes samples to create your own playlist if you are easily distracted by vocals or a sudden change to a more upbeat tune.   You can weed out anything you think would be disruptive to your meditating that way.  However, I do believe people should be able to meditate anywhere under any conditions they choose (if you learn how to properly), and meditations don’t all have to be so serious and somber either, so you might enjoy a change of pace like “The Dream” or “Fionnuala’s Cookie Jar”, from Winter Poem.

Meditation Options

Would you like a guided meditation to pair with the garden theme? Try one of these options from Through the Blue Door: Lakshmi’s Temple, Labyrinth, or Mandorla Meditation. As always, be sure to come back and share your meditation experience with us.

“We call upon the waters that rim the earth, horizon to horizon, that flow in our rivers and streams, that fall upon our gardens and fields, and we ask that they teach us and show us the way.”

Secret Garden Bonus

For those of you so musically inclined, the bonus here is that if you go  to their website shop you can purchase sheet music in addition to the Amazon.com links to the Secret Garden CDs/mp3s. There is even an artwork print of Winter Poem if you can’t get enough.

Do you have music you meditate to that has ties back to your roots?
