Computer Divination How-To

So last night I was surfing trying to decide what to plan for my development group this week when I came across “computer divination.” Being a huge fan of bibliomancy (divination by opening a book to a random page and reading a passage), I thought, hey why not give it a try. It’s entertainment at the very least.

I talked a friend of mine into playing along via our chat and off we went. We tried both Google and Ask Jeeves to see if there was any real difference, but it was kind of up in the air. And considering the nature of our resources, we weren’t about to ask any terribly serious questions either.

How-To

Basically the premise of this computer divination is that you take a search engine, any will do, or try a few. Type your full question that you’re seeking guidance upon into the search engine box. Don’t omit any words. Focus on your question and ask for guidance on the answer. Then, when you’re ready, click to search. When it brings up your options, you are supposed to see the answer to the question within the first five entry summaries.

All I can say from this experiences was, aside from the laughs, which may well have been worth it is that I should be married “soon” or “right away”; the man’s name will be James, or Chris; I will be moving to NY or SD; and I will have a child coming in nine months. I couldn’t say whether or not this divination form works at all, but I’ll report back if any of this comes to pass. Mostly I was thinking if there was any “divine assistance” within the responses, they were probably joking around with us. The same as we were joking around with the asking of the questions. My friend? Oh yeah, he’s supposed to be married in August this year (the 3rd to be exact), to a woman named either Jane, June or Elena. A mail-order bride possibly?

Well worth the laughs. If we took it more seriously, we would probably have more accuracy in the end. But now I still need to find something to do for class!
