Symbolism in meditation (or dreams, or signs & synchronicity for that matter) is one of the greatest ways that the Universe, our guides, or passed loved ones can communicate with us. Looking even closer at objects we are shown can give us very unique and significant messages, as the facets and details of an object are another layer of meaning, for example, a penny being notably shiny rather than dull, or water being cold and murky rather than flowing, turquoise blue. Color plays a great role in emphasizing the full meaning behind a symbol you are meant to notice. Here we look at the color orange symbolism.
The Color Brown
How do you feel about the color brown? Your personal thoughts on it always take precedence over the traditional or generic interpretations. One thing that is notable, when it comes to brown, many of the color names are derived from various woods/trees and foods. It’s interesting, because in contrast as an example, the purple shades are often named for flowers. From that observation alone, we can make a correlation. Trees bring us shelter and provide sources for structures and basic necessities, and foods sustain us. When you see the keywords to follow, you’ll see how those themes of protection and support correspond to the symbolism of the color brown, too.
Symbolism
I’ve grouped the browns into sections to help narrow down what you are looking for. Check over the general list for brown first to see what word stands out before choosing a keyword from another shade section. Keywords to browse for symbolism of the color brown include the following. Only scan for a word or two or a phrase that stands out to you in the moment; it will never be the complete list that pertains to your specific instance, and it will rarely be the same word for different occasions. The exception to that is if you are receiving a series of signs (synchronicity) all tied to the same situation.
BROWN: earthiness, practicality, reliability, natural/organic, stubbornness, worldliness, conservativism, reassurance, credibility, honesty.
Dark Browns (Chocolate, Coffee, Hickory): foundation, stability, neutralizing, comfort zone, protection.
Reddish Browns (Mahogany, Auburn, Sienna): energized rationality, strength, determination.
Medium Browns (Sepia, Umber, Chestnut, Cinnamon): usefulness, satisfaction, viability, functionality, common sense, dependability, consistency, authenticity.
Light Browns (Beige, Sand, Tan): simplicity, familiarity, calm, neutrality, monotony, predictable, straightforward, fundamental.
The Trouble with Brown
On its own brown is a lovely color with a secure, warm kind of energy. If only a small bit of another color is mixed into brown, it still has, generally, positive energy and aspects. Unfortunately, it causes energy unbalance when used as a tint mixed into other colors (where there is a greater quantity of the other color). It always results in a negative aspect of that color, due to that color being muddied, essentially. This imbalance brings about things like lust, rage, anger, pride, ego, jealousy, and so many other fear-based characteristics. Especially when you decide to dress in brown clothing, or more importantly, any colors that are obviously tinged with brown, it’s advised to weigh out how it feels to you before you put it on, to avoid it shifting your mood in an unwanted way.
Possible Messages for the Color Brown
“It’s advised to be practical and logical about this matter.”
“Get outside and connect with the earth to regain balance.”
“Recognize what your comfort zone is and know when it is time to go beyond that, taking a leap of faith.”
“Break the cycle of boredom, repetition, and monotony.”
“Establish your foundation first.”
“What is familiar, plain, and simple may be in your best interest at this time.”
In general, brown and all of its shades tend to carry practical messages of encouragement, ones that are likely to help you keep grounded. Please feel free to share your experiences with BROWN symbols in the comments or in the symbolism questions section.
