Not So Secret

Even before it was brought to Oprah, the newest rage in spirituality emerging on film came by way of The Secret. I’ve watched it with a couple of my different workshop groups now, to present it to them as is. It is good to launch into in discussions on it afterward. Many interesting perspectives have come about. From talking about what works in the documentary for people – what they like, related to most, or found significance in. To talking about what didn’t work for people – what was left out, or not addressed, or left unclear.

Personally, I found it interesting that it is information that I’ve been passing along to people and students for years. All of it aligns to this supposed “secret,” without me ever giving it this label. The use of affirmations. The concept that “like attracts like.” Asking for things from the Universe. Manifesting what you need in life, and more. It did not bring up anything particularly new to me. Nor did it to those I viewed it with, who all found it to be ‘not so secret. But, I think the importance to those of us who already “know,” is the fact that we can all use a reminder for positivity. There’s nothing wrong with a boost of inspiration from time to time.

Additionally, there is a unifying sense between those of us who teach or understand these ideas already when it is voiced to the public in such a way. It feels like there isn’t such a distance between us all, as we can sometimes experience on this spiritual path. It was also fun to see the diversity of ideas for applying these positive affirmations. We could all benefit from some of the originality described in those experiences.

As to what was left out or not addressed, there is a lot to be left to further discussion. There was an irresponsible amount of critical information left out – like ALL the Laws of humanity. Ones that interactively affect the Law of Attraction. It’s not so simple and tidy as they want people to buy into. (Yes, BUY. As it IS most certainly about extraordinary wealth to them. Commercialism disguised as spirituality).

I think for those involved they were trying to spoon feed specific ideas largely to a general public and decided they had to go the route they did. Maybe some of the more in depth things, or the ‘spokes’ off the initial concept will be to follow in another presentation. There are still going to be a lot of people who won’t grasp a thing that is said. People come into their own spirituality and truths in divine time. But overall, anytime some bit of needed truth is brought to people that haven’t yet come to certain awareness, it might spark in them some light that fuels the remainder of their human journey…and I’m all for that.
